More than a workout. It's a vibe. Step aerobics for our community, by someone from our community. Show up, move, and catch a vibe.
Inside the Class
Who We Are
Fair warning — if you heard I teach step and immediately pictured a yard show, that assumption is completely valid. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated after all. But this is a whole different kind of stepping. 😊
Step aerobics was not love at first sight for me. I had seen it before and it just never really caught my attention. That all changed in June 2024 when a friend posted a flyer on Instagram. Another friend of ours had just become an instructor and was hosting her very first class. At the time I was deep in postpartum, struggling, and needing something to pull me out of my funk. I saw that flyer and thought why not. I needed to move. I needed something.
I walked into that first class and never looked back.
What I didn't expect was how much I would commit to it. Stepping became the first thing outside of my husband and my family that I truly stayed consistent with. I went to beginners class faithfully every single Saturday. I watched videos at home, practiced on my own, and kept leveling up until I finally worked up the nerve to walk into the intermediate and advanced classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. From there it was all gas.
Becoming an instructor was never part of the plan. But people kept finding me and asking when I was going to teach. They told me about their fears around trying step and somehow felt safe enough with me to say they would show up if I ever did it. That meant more to me than I can put into words.
Then I lost my mother.
I had been planning to bring her to class with me. She had been dealing with limited mobility and I really believed stepping could help get her moving again and also help her regain some confidence and strength the way it did for me. And anyone who knew my mom knows she loved music and dancing — this would have been the perfect outlet for her. I never got that chance.
Losing her is something I haven't gotten through and honestly never will. But stepping held me when I needed to be held. The community I found on that floor became my family and my outlet. When something does that for you, when it shows up for you in one of the darkest seasons of your life, you don't keep it to yourself. You share it.
That is why I became an instructor. For the person who is scared to try. For the person who needs an outlet and just hasn't found it yet. For anyone carrying something heavy when they walk through that door.
This is a no judgment zone. You are safe here. Whatever you came in with, leave it at the door and give everything you have to the floor.
